Frequently asked questions

If your question is not here, message us on WhatsApp at +254 724 420 004.

Is there an entry fee?

No. (ART)ONEMENT is completely free and operates within a gift economy. All workshops, events and materials are accessible to everyone without charge.

What are the opening hours?

Hours vary with the programme, so we do not publish fixed times. Message us on WhatsApp at +254 724 420 004 to check today's hours before you travel.

Do I need prior experience or art skills?

Not at all. The space is built for all skill levels, from complete beginners to seasoned makers. No permission or prior experience is required to join in or to lead a session.

At the same time, we deeply value experienced practitioners and professionals who want to contribute, mentor others and help make the festival fly.

How do I propose an activity, workshop or performance?

Anyone can propose a session, whether it is a hands-on crafting workshop, a discussion, a musical set or a movement class. Read how it works, then submit your idea, resource needs and preferred time slot using the submission form.

Space is limited. Submissions stay open until the programme is full, and then close.

Can my activity happen somewhere other than your space?

Yes. Activities can take place at Africa Nomads Art Space on Kilima Road, or anywhere in the greater Mombasa area. Tell us what you have in mind on the form and we will work it out with you.

When will the programme be published?

The programme is built with the community, so it is assembled as submissions come in. Once activities are confirmed, the schedule will appear on the Submit an activity page. Sign up at the bottom of any page to be told when it goes live.

Can I bring my children?

Yes. All ages are welcome throughout the day. Events tailored for families and children are designated on the published programme.

What can I donate to the space?

We welcome contributions across four categories:

  • Sculpture materials: scrap wood, wooden pallets, cardboard, textiles and working tools.
  • Food and drink: anything to share during community meals.
  • Workshop supplies: paper, pens, notebooks, non-toxic paint and general stationery.
  • Media support: photography, videography, and writing about the festival.

Message us on WhatsApp before dropping anything off so somebody is there to receive it. See the Support page for more.

Do workshop hosts get materials provided?

We pool materials from shared community supplies and donated items. If your session needs something specific, we will work with you during sign-up to source it together.

How much time do I need to commit as a volunteer?

Volunteer roles are flexible. You can contribute a single two-hour shift during open hours, or join a working group with a regular commitment of five to ten hours a week or more. Share your availability and skills using the team form.

How can I give money?

Our mobile money and bank details are being finalised. For now, email info@artonement.org and we will tell you how to contribute directly.
